I appreciate your analysis, but the cynic is me falls back to Nicolle Wallace's question yesterday...will it matter? Yes, we'll eventually have detailed minute-by-minute accounting of the insurrection, there may even be emails/texts/witnesses testifying to the involvement of Congressmen and perhaps clear financial links/ coordination with the Trump family. Then what? It won't affect voters who seem poised to reelect Republicans, know that the endgame is the dissolution of democracy. It won't affect the 'involved' Congressmen who would be reelected in their gerrymandered districts even if they had personally 'hung' Mike Pence. It won't lead to accountability for Trump. AG Garland is doing his best to remain as irrelevant as possible when it comes to most things, but particularly, the unending crime spree of the Trump administration. Democratic leadership seems determined to avoid any type of democracy-hardening legislation. So, other than fodder for future historians, why will any of this matter? I hope there is an answer, I just don't see one.
