Now that the internet as we knew it crumbling around us, I am going to revive my newsletter and turn it into a weekly-ish update of what I am reading and writing.
I'll support anything you do, Hunter. I'm glad you've left the smoking ruins that is Twitter. Wishing you all the best in your career and personal life.
Thanks Deborah! Have always appreciated your feedback and support.
Twitter is the worst. I post my story links there because I want to bring as many people as possible to TPM, but other than that I am out. Trying Threads and Blue Sky too but I like this way better than any of that.
It really feels to me like it's all undergoing a huge change and newsletters are closer to the right answer than any Twitter clone.
Musk did me a favor because he finally got me to delete the app and now I have my life back. I haven’t joined any other clones and don’t intend to. I joined Duolingo, which is a much better use of my time. I’m glad I get to continue to keep tabs on your reporting through your newsletter. Good luck on this new venture. You are very brave, and if you ever come to Los Angeles I’d love to buy you a beer/coffee etc.
I have followed you since your Yahoo days and remember worrying about your safety heading out into the crowds in DC to report first hand what you were seeing.
It's nice to see a newsletter like this from you and have a place to talk to you and your readers away from the fray. Thanks for doing what you do.
Good to see around, fella. I’m glad you enjoyed the beach and one of God’s blessings to us, the sea. As to Twitter being ruined, now you know how we (half the damn country) felt about it for the last 7+ years. There is no discourse win voices with differing opinions are silenced. Super sweet to learn you’re a deadhead. There must still be hope! 😄 check out Jason Isbell and the 400 unit’s newest album, weathervanes. Album of the year! Hope you’re well and best wishes to you and your lovely wife! Prayers to blessed with many babies.
Hahhaaaa I’m in my pool and was speaking the text. I obviously know the difference between. When and win! Ha! Good lord Siri is trying to make me out as an idiot.
Thanks for the kind words Bree! I do think we need a fairly broad, diverse, and open public square for anyone not engaged in violent speech or slurs. That's what I will aim to have in these comments! However, I think Twitter was closer to that before than it is now. All of the supposed revelations of bias in Elon's "Twitter files" have been selectively presented examples of fairly standard content moderation. Meanwhile, Elon is clearly and admittedly prioritizing the accounts that pay, which have largely leaned right.
I am over it and glad to have this space.
I will check out Isbell. I love country but my tastes skew old school. Johnny Cash is an all time favorite and I love Willie's Red Headed Stranger album. I am kinda into Taylor Swift's early stuff too
